Issues

Let’s bring back common sense!

I believe that local services, especially senior services, must meet the highest standards and accountability. And as an advocate for education, I believe all parents and students have the right to choose and attend the best schools. I have spent most of my career working in education and seen what can go right and what can go wrong.

From leading beautification and capital improvement projects, to ensuring homeowners appeal to fight an over-burdening tax system, I will work as a trustee to make our township both appealing and affordable again.

  • Needless to say, Cook County has earned a poor reputation. Among other issues, it oftentimes provides lazy and lousy service. Yet the county continues to raise taxes, thereby compelling people to leave. And the folks who have stayed have to make up that tax burden.

Our last defense against Crook County politicians who do not have our interests in mind is our township. As a trustee, I will work with the township assessor to appeal homeowners' property taxes—which also eliminates the need for anyone to hire an attorney.

  • Spending is a problem at the township. $80,000 here for a consultant. $2 million there for administrative costs. I think it is imperative for every level of government to spend taxpayer dollars wisely.

As a trustee, I will craft and vote for budgets that are balanced and cut wasteful spending. I will also propose a tax rebate program that returns any dollars unspent by the township back to the people.

  • I care about sustainability and fuel efficiency, and recently the township has moved toward purchasing expensive electric buses to transport seniors and the disabled. This sounds like a good progressive idea, until we remember that we live in the Midwest. As we’ve seen with other electric vehicles, they freeze in the winter, rendering them useless.

Electric buses are a big problem in the winter, especially when seniors and the disabled rely on them yet can't use them. We need buses that work all year round, and as a trustee I will ensure the township transitions back to using reliable and sustainable gas engine buses.

  • As a trustee, I will apply a broken-windows approach that cleans up our township and directs some funds towards improving infrastructure and planting native trees and flowers. This will deter criminal activity, make our township more appealing, and raise property values for all.
